Splendid Communications makes planet positive commitment with World Land Trust

22nd August 2021

PR and digital comms agency, Splendid Communications, today (Tuesday 24th August) announces its support of international conservation charity World Land Trust. As part of its commitment to becoming a more sustainable company, Splendid is undertaking a two phased programme of initiatives with the charity. The first sees Splendid investing in key World Land Trust programmes* – Buy an Acre and Plant a Tree - that aid the protection and restoration of tropical habitats in countries including Argentina and Brazil. The second phase will be taking part in its Carbon Balanced programme.

In 2021 Splendid introduced triple bottom line reporting and is committed to measuring its social and environmental impact - in addition to its financial performance - with the ambition of moving towards a regenerative and more sustainable future.

Niki Hunter Ekins, MD and sustainable practice lead at Splendid Communications, says: “We chose to partner with World Land Trust as its schemes enable us to quantify our contribution in tangible ways, not just in terms of a financial donation. World Land Trust gives control to the people of the land, which is important as those native to the land understand it best, and this helps deliver a positive impact that will last.”

“Our aim is to make sure our future business success is also tied to protecting the planet. The time to act is now and we look forward to being able to show year on year improvements. Not only do we want to show that we are putting in measures to reduce our carbon emissions, but also that we are balancing our unavoidable carbon output.” continued Niki.

As part of the agency’s ongoing sustainability plan, this year Splendid has been reviewing its practices and processes, from the suppliers it uses, to how it activates and carries out events, ensuring sustainability is front of mind. All staff have adopted personal planet objectives and are making positive changes in their personal lives, such as eating less meat, shopping responsibly and reducing their energy consumption.

Notes to Editors

*The WLT initiatives that Splendid is supporting this year:

Buy an Acre:

This is the WLT’s landmark programme. Buy an Acre projects are chosen to save maximum biodiversity in areas where WLT’s overseas conservation partners can purchase and protect land for an average of £100 an acre. Current projects within the programme are supporting WLT’s partner in Argentina to create the Chaco Tagua Biological Corridor to protect Dry Chaco habitat, and supporting WLT’s partner in Brazil to protect critically threatened Atlantic forest where biodiversity levels remain astonishingly good despite the fact that today’s forest cover is only 7% of what it once was.

Plant a Tree:

This programme funds WLT’s local conservation partners to reforest areas that have been lost in the past and reconnect fragmented habitat for wildlife. The cost to plant a tree is £5 and this includes the sapling, land preparation and planting, as well as 3-4 years of maintenance and monitoring to ensure the tree can survive on its own. The programme currently includes projects in Borneo, Brazil, India and Kenya.

About Splendid Communications

It used to be that a loud voice and a decent ad spend was all you needed to get your message across. From our strategic thinking, to the way we generate ideas and work with our clients, our starting point is real people living real lives in the real world. We’ll challenge you and urge you to keep it real. We’re here to deliver creative work that lives beyond the industry bubble. We love what we do. We’re Splendid.

About World Land Trust

World Land Trust is an international conservation charity that protects the world’s most biologically significant and threatened habitats acre by acre. WLT saves the land so that everything that depends on it can be saved – the wildlife, the plants and trees, and the communities.

Through a network of partner organisations around the world, WLT funds the creation of reserves and provides permanent protection for habitats and wildlife. Partnerships are developed with established and highly respected local organisations who engage support and commitment among the local community.
