A contingent of Itineris staff will be jostling along to WordCamp London (#WCLDN) this weekend and we are all SUPER excited. Check out our top five reasons why we can’t wait to get there, below:

THE place for all-things WordPress

If you haven’t heard of WordCamp and you have a WordPress site, you are in for a treat. WordCamp conventions happen all over the world; from Madrid to San Jose but we have our very own right here in London.

WordCamp is set up and run by volunteers in the WordPress community for the WordPress community. The events have been running from 2013. The ticket prices are generally capped very low, as the event is paid for by sponsors. Which is a nice incentive.

The event is happening across the campus at London Metropolitan University, Holloway Road. Anyone and everyone who is involved with WordPress can benefit from the joys of WCLDN. The event spans three days and provides a range of informative seminars, opportunities to network and social sessions. 

Also…we are kinda going for the free swag. Is that bad?

Top speakers

Whether you’re a developer, content-writer, data analyst or general WordPress superfan, there is a seminar for everyone. This year, WCLDN has attracted some extremely cool and knowledgeable people to come along to impart their pearls. Think TED talks for WordPress, and you will be on the right lines.

One of our favourites is Zac Gordon. Zac is professional educator, focussing on JavaScript development. He has many years of experience teaching at high schools, colleges, bootcamps and online learning sites like Treehouse, Udemy and Frontend Masters.

In addition to teaching, Zac also runs Web Hosting for Students, one of the world’s largest hosting companies dedicated to students and teachers. You can also catch his free Office Yoga sessions on OfficeYoga.tv.

Friday and Saturday socials

A convention wouldn’t be the same without a good-old knees up. A chance to relax from the busy day of seminars and to mix with your newly-found WordPress friends, WordCamp offers an array of social activities.

Friday there is an informal WCLDN social at the Drake & Morgan at King’s Cross. But Saturday night is the main social highlight. This will be at the on-campus bar, The Rocket and is BYOBG (Bring Your Own Board Game). Playing cards, Connect4, Jenga and Monopoly are most welcome.

Contributor Day

If you can’t make the weekend, and would rather get your WordPress fix during work time, WordCamp continues to deliver…this time with its ‘contributor day’.

Contributor days are a great way to start or to continue contributing to the WordPress project. You can help by writing software, help with forums, writing documentation, organising community events, user testing or language translations.

A chance to catch up and relax with our partners

We will also be using the occasion to catch up with several of our key WordPress partners and suppliers including Kinsta, WooCommerce and Yoast. We’ll also be representing Roots, who can’t be there this time. As we love their platform. If you have a Roots question, we will happily pass it on!

There will also be a WCLDN happiness bar (manned during all breaks and lunches) for any help you might need on WordPress and a ‘calm room’, in case everything gets a little too much.
