Does colour really matter?

Colour is everywhere, and when thinking about your branding, it is so important to get the colour right. This colour will portray a lot about the brand, even if you are not trying to. The colour of a brand or an advertisement can really help your business. Hubspot designed a Call To Action button (CTA), one was red and one was green. The red CTA button outperformed the green one by 21%, due to the colour red being perceived as an urgency. Colour psychology looks at how colour can influence your behaviour and decision making.

Red

Red creates a powerful emotion which can translate into both positive and negative, therefore it is important to use it with caution. As stated before, it can create a sense of urgency, which is why it is so good with sales. Red is also known to encourage appetite, which is why you may see it so much in the food industry.

Orange

Generally orange creates a warm feeling, due to it being associated with the sun. It is also considered as a fun, confident and a friendly colour. Therefore, a colour which we would consider for a more non-corporate brand. It is also the colour which people most associate with being cheap, therefore if your business focuses on that angle, it may be a colour worth looking at.

Yellow

Most people associate yellow with being youthful, happy and fun. It is a bright colour and so a non-corporate business may benefit more from using this colour in their brand. However, be careful as this colour can create a sense of caution when used with colours such as black.

Green

Green is a more soothing and relaxing colour, and relates to a healthy lifestyle. It is a fresh colour, linking to the environment and healthy lifestyle; for example, healthy food and fitness. This colour can also be perceived as a strong position of power, whether that power be in banking, finance, military, it shows a level of power.

Blue

This colour represents trust and loyalty. It is also the colour of strength and wisdom, which is why you will see this colour for many brands. Therefore, it is a great colour to go for. However, if you want to stand out from the crowd, we would suggest a different colour.

Purple

If you are going after a superior and more upper end look, then historically, purple has been the best choice. Its links with royalty has got it to this status. It is mainly linked to traits such as wisdom, wealth and sophistication.

Pink

Pink is usually represented as a more feminine colour, including passionate and caring qualities. It has also been used in many industries to ‘break the mould’. So if you think it is a colour you can ‘break the mould’ with, why not try it?

Black

If you are looking for a powerful branding colour, then most businesses opt for black. It is classed as a luxury and powerful brand. However, it is not suited for industries like health and environmental issues. So make sure it is fitting for your brand.

White/silver

This colour represents cleanliness, sleekness, and purity. Using this colour can really make a brand look and feel modern. However, if designed poorly, then it can look cheap and lazy.   If you would like your branding thoroughly planned out and designed by a professional, then take a look at our
