6 good reasons to use WordPress

“Give me one good reason for using WordPress.” Well, here are six.

While there are some who discount WordPress as a viable website platform, we at Harrison Carloss are firm advocates for using WordPress. We’ve made it one of our core platforms for web development simply because there are just so many powerful and proven reasons for doing so.

Accessible, incredibly flexible, secure with endless possibilities WordPress runs over 40% of the world’s websites. In our opinion, for anyone considering a website platform, WordPress should definitely be on your shortlist.

1. Security

Many people think WordPress isn’t secure, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Fact is, any system will become insecure if not kept up to date as platforms evolve generally and new vulnerabilities are exposed.

At Harrison Carloss we’ve made it standard procedure to check the WordPress sites we build on a monthly basis, and update them as a matter of priority.

Without these regular updates, security issues will arise naturally due to the high usage volume, just because more vulnerabilities are discovered and possibly exploited.

2. Support

Most WordPress vulnerabilities actually come down to plugins, which if not maintained and checked could leave a site open to attack.

Yet because WordPress is open source, anyone can contribute to its development, meaning the platform has a huge community of followers constantly working to improve its functionality.

Better still, there are more resources online if you need help with using or developing with WordPress.

On this same note, more people spending time finding and reporting vulnerabilities in WordPress software results in fewer vulnerable WordPress plugins and themes.

3. Design

Another plus for WordPress is that it’s so easy to use and can be fully customised. On top of which there are almost 60,000 free plugins in the official WordPress plugin directory.

One downside here is that the platform’s very usability means anyone can use WordPress to make a website – including people without design or development knowledge – which is a reason why many think WordPress sites can look bad.

4. SEO

The flexibility of WordPress provides you with access to tens of thousands of third-party plugins, many of which can help improve your SEO.

Yoast SEO, for instance, has the most active installations and five-star ratings in the WordPress plugin directory.

With over five million active installations and 26 thousand five-star ratings, Yoast is the most downloaded and well-rated free plugin in the directory.

SEO plugins offer features to help you with tags and categories, optimising your titles and content using key phrases and keywords, and Google Analytics support.

5. Usage

WordPress has been the fastest growing content management system since 2010. According to data from W3Techs, WordPress is used by 43.2% of all websites on the internet in 2022, up from 39.5% in 2021. That means two out of every five websites use WordPress.

Of all websites using a CMS (Content Management System), WordPress accounts for 65.2% of them.

6. Flexibility

A WordPress website can be as basic or complex as needed. As the ultimate content management system (CMS), WordPress makes it easy for someone unfamiliar with websites and no coding experience to manage, modify, and publish a basic website with content such as images, text, videos, etc.

At the same time it’s so powerful and versatile, it can be integrated into many different systems, and used to build a complex bespoke website that satisfies all of a business’s needs perfectly, or uses WooCommerce to process hundreds of orders a day.
