The Consortium has been providing educational supplies to schools across the UK for the last 40 years, working with 400 audited suppliers and managing over 40,000 product lines. In addition to looking after The Consortium's Magento hosting & support, in 2015 we embarked on a project to build a bespoke tool that allowed their customers to easily configure and purchase Exercise Books. The vast number of possible attribute option combinations for an Exercise Book (orientation, size, number of pages, colour, ruling etc.) meant that the process could have potentially put tremendous strain on the database. Creating a new Magento Product Type (named Builder Product - based on the Configurable Product Type) allowed us to create the functionality required to handle this complex operation. The tool was a tremendous success and in 2016 The Consortium was shortlisted for the Best B2B eCommerce website at the eCommerce Awards for Excellence.
