Golfsupport is one of the UK's leading online golf retailers. Run by PGA professionals, the company supplies golf equipment across all major brands, guaranteeing the lowest prices for its customers.
In March 2019, we knew it was time to tighten our approach to earning featured snippets. Featured snippets can help increase a website’s traffic, authority and brand awareness—something we wanted for all our clients.
Even though we had already landed featured snippets for clients, we hadn’t yet mastered a technique to secure them. So, our expert content marketing team set to work with the aim of mastering how to secure that coveted “position 0” spot on the SERPs for the benefit of all our clients.
We chose to work with Golfsupport for this project as its website has a high domain authority and we’d seen success with previous blog posts we had written for the company.
After finding methodologies that explained how to essentially “steal” featured snippets, we scoured the blog posts we’d written for Golfsupport.
We identified some of the best-performing blog posts (those ranking in the top 10 positions) and narrowed down the list to the pages that shared keywords with other websites that held the featured snippet. We then analysed why these blog posts were so successful and applied this understanding to Golfsupport’s existing content.
Combining these insights with the tips we found in the methodologies, we restructured Golfsupport’s best-performing blog posts. We also analysed what the current holder of the featured snippet was doing right and replicated their approach in our content.
In just a few months, we gained nine featured snippets for Golfsupport’s targeted keywords. We also achieved 62 SERP features for our client as a result of our re-optimisation of pre-existing blog posts, including features such as image packs and site links.
Overall this improved the visibility of Golfsupport’s content and increased its site traffic. It also had a positive impact on clicks and impressions from the SERP after achieving featured snippets.
Our featured snippet stealing is a work in progress- but is going well for a number of clients, such as Golfsupport. So far, in a few months, we have gained 9 featured snippets for key terms. What’s more, we have now got 62 SERP features for our client as a result of our re-optimisation of old blog posts- including things such as image packs and site links.
