Brightcove PLAY 2015 - Boston

6th May 2015

For the past few days we have been in Boston attending the Brightcove PLAY conference. We imagine that most of you reading this will be more than aware of Brightcove’s services but for those who don’t, here’s a brief overview:

Founded in 2004, Brightcove is the leading online video hosting platform and online video player solution. They have more than 5,500 customers in over 70 countries for whom they help achieve their brand and monetary targets for video content.

We have utilised Brightcove’s services for a number of our clients. Two recent examples can be found when looking at the website we created using Kentico for the multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical company Actavis and the online financial TV channel The latter use solely video for their content delivery and we customised the Brightcove video player to create a truly original platform that has received recognition from David Mendels, the CEO of Brightcove no less!

It was the work that we did for Realvision TV that brought MMT Digital to the attention of Brightcove and the relationship has continued to blossom ever since, with Brightcove never failing to be anything other than helpful when discussing how to maximise their product.

We had a few objectives for travelling to Boston: (a) to continue to build the relationship with Brightcove and meet their US team (b) to hear about all of the exciting product developments that they will be rolling out over the next 12 months, or sooner) (c) to hear how companies have been creative and successful with their video content and finally (d) to network with lots of highly talented people and discuss what we have achieved with the Brightcove player.

Day 1 of the conference, held at The Intercontinental Hotel, got off to a great start with an inspiring presentation from David Mendels and with 3 tracks to choose from: (1) Media (2) Digital Marketing (3) Developer, a lack of quality talks and panel discussions was never going to be a possibility.

The calibre of speakers was certainly high with the likes of Jon Steinberg, CEO of, J.R. McCabe, SVP of Video at Time Inc. and John Martin, Managing Director of NASCAR, all in the line-up.

The first day ended with cocktails on the patio of the hotel, followed by a few more cocktails, and then a couple more for good measure.

Following practically no sleep thanks to pesky jetlag, we headed next door to the Brightcove offices for Day 2 of PLAY. After a hearty breakfast (just one example of Brighcove’s exemplary catering that was evident throughout the 2 days) we listened to presentations from various members of the Brightcove team who delved a little deeper into the product innovations touched upon throughout the first day.

Facebook were one of the official sponsors of PLAY and they delivered a lunch time presentation titled “What’s New With Facebook Video” that was inevitably listened to intensely by the audience.

Once the 2nd day was wrapped up we had a few hours to kill before our flight. This gave us the opportunity to say our goodbyes to all of the people we met from companies from across the globe, as well as the Brightcove staff.

We flew through Tuesday night landing in Heathrow early on Wednesday morning, sleep deprived but full of excitement about what we can deliver for our clients via Brightcove’s video player.
