Ratings & Recommendations

  • What is recommended status?

All agencies awarded recommended status have received a minimum of 3 ratings per service. If the average score across three ratings is above the RAR minimum standard of 7 out of 10, your agency will become recommended.

  • What's the difference between recommended status and membership?

Your recommended status is proof that your clients regard you highly and are happy with the services you provided. You do not pay to become recommended, you achieve this by receiving at least 3 client ratings per service and once recommended, your agency will then appear in relevant search results.

The RAR membership allows you to enhance your visibility on RAR, as well as making you eligible for the RAR Awards and giving you access to RAR assets, such as logos and certificates, to use for your own marketing. You will also be able to monitor your performance through an Agency Ratings Report. Each membership level has a different price structure to suit your business needs.

  • How long does recommended status last for?

Each client rating is valid for 12 months. You must maintain at least 3 client ratings with a score of 7 or higher per service to remain recommended. Your recommended status can last longer than 12 months by keeping your ratings up to date and inviting clients on a regular basis throughout the year.

  • How does the ratings system work?

    • To invite a client to rate you simply enter your client's details, including the company name, client's name, email address, and the services provided into the "invite clients" panel on the right hand side of your dashboard.
    • A personalised link will then be generated for your client and an automated email will be sent to them with this link.
    • If you receive 3 client ratings per service with a score of 7 or over, you will then become recommended.
    • Once recommended your agency will appear higher in search results, more content about your agency will be made visible, your achievement will be broadcast on our Twitter account and one of our membership executives will be in touch to discuss opportunities to heighten your visibility on the site.

  • Is it worth getting more than three ratings per service once I become recommended?

Yes. Like any research, the bigger the sample size the more accurate the results are. Even though you only need a minimum of 3 client ratings per service to become recommended, clients can pick and choose which services to rate you on based on what they think is appropriate, so the more clients you invite, the more likely you are to become recommended, and for more services.

A higher number of ratings will also give you a better analysis of your own performance in the Agency Ratings Report along with being beneficial for the RAR Awards and The Drum Reports.

  • What happens if my recommended status expires during my paid membership?

Only recommended agencies appear on RAR in the relevant search results, therefore membership benefits will temporarily cease if your recommended status expires. All benefits are reinstated when your recommended status is renewed. It is your responsibility to maintain your recommended status.

  • What is the benchmark score to become recommended?

Because we use Bayesian probability, an average score of 7/10 or higher on each rated area will be enough to become recommended.

  • Can my ratings be topped up when I'm already recommended?

Yes. In fact, you should make a point of topping up your ratings regularly so that your status doesn't expire. This also allows profile and platinum members to monitor changes in performance scores through the Agency Ratings Report.

  • What happens if I receive a negative rating?

All exceedingly high or low ratings are filtered through our ratings approval process. Our team check these ratings to ensure they are genuine before approving. If you have received a genuinely negative rating this will be applied to your account and will affect your overall score and recommended status. These ratings last for 12 months, however the rating can be updated during this time by re-inviting the client, if the relationship or issue has been rectified.

  • What information will my clients be asked for when I add them as a reference?

Clients are asked to complete a short online survey which should only take 3 minutes to complete, however this may vary depending on the amount of commentary the client leaves on the rating. They are asked to rate agencies performance across criteria such as Effectiveness, Creativity & Innovation, Value for Money, On Time, On Budget, Client Service and Strategic Thinking. They are also asked for scores and comments on each individual service provided by the agency. All ratings are based on a scale of 0-10.

  • Can I see scores an invited client has given?

All client ratings are confidential; this means you will not be able to directly see a specific response. Individual scores are aggregated and an average score is generated. You can access the Agency Ratings Report which contains aggregated data and comments.

  • Does RAR guarantee a number of leads / pitches to Agencies buying membership?

RAR is focused on helping clients find the right agency partners, not on agency lead generation. Our approach means that agencies may receive new business opportunities, however we cannot make any guarantees. Many clients use recommendedagencies.com to search for and contact agencies directly. RAR memberships allow agencies to display more valuable content such as case studies, which increases the chances of selection by those clients.

  • Will RAR try to sell services to clients we invited to rate us?

No, RAR never approaches invited clients. However, if a client subsequently approaches RAR for services we will treat them as we would any normal client enquiry.

  • Are ratings made public?

Depending on your membership level your ratings will be available to all registered and anonymous clients viewing your public profile (Platinum and Profile members only). Other than this, your ratings will not be visible on your public profile.

Also, if you are a Platinum and Profile member the testimonials on your rating will appear on your public profile and you are allowed to use these quotes for your own marketing.

You will be able to access and monitor your ratings through an Agency Ratings Report, however clients’ details will be anonymous.

We may also use quotes from your ratings as part of our awards ceremonies if you are one of the winning agencies.

  • Who sends the invitation?

The invitation email is generated automatically when you upload a client reference. The email will be sent from recommends@thedrum.com.

  • How do I know when my ratings have been completed?

You can monitor which clients have or haven’t rated you by clicking the quicklink on the right-hand side of the dashboard which says “client references”. In here you can see each client reference and when they left a rating. Also, your clients have the option to notify you once the rating is complete. You will receive a notification at the top of your dashboard when this happens.

  • What if my client doesn’t receive the invitation to rate my agency?

Sometimes, the invitation emails can get caught up in firewalls, so we always advise keeping in touch with your clients during the recommendation process. If any of your clients cannot find the invitation in their inbox, please contact jo.collins@recommendedagencies.com who can send the link directly to your client.

  • How do I improve my chances of getting recommended?

We advise adding more than the minimum of 3 clients to rate you, as this will ensure you become recommended and for more services. Explain the situation and the process to your clients before inviting them, so they can keep an eye out for invitations. Also, keep in touch with your clients during the ratings process in case they encounter any problems which the RAR team can help with. Don’t be afraid to ask the RAR team for help if there is anything you are unsure of.

  • What are the benefits of becoming recommended?

When you become recommended your agency appears in relevant search results, making it easier for prospective clients to find out more about your agency. You will become eligible for a RAR Membership which will help you be found by clients, increase your chances of lead generation, give you access to your clients’ feedback (Agency Ratings Report), allow you to use RAR tools to support your own marketing and increase your chances of winning RAR Awards.

Only Recommended Agencies will be put forward for client consultancy and The Drum’s Surveys (Digital Census, Independent Agency Census etc), and having this accreditation is a huge stamp of approval for many brands and clients searching for new agency partners.

Technical Issues

  • What are RAR's Terms and Conditions relating to consultancy?

You can read RAR's Terms and Conditions here.

  • What does 'This product is only available for agencies' error mean?

Some of our products and plans are made specifically for our agencies or clients. If you believe you should have access to this product, please contact us and we will assist you.

  • I've found a bug. What should I do?

If you've found any issue on our page, please get in touch with us and we will happily look into it.

  • I can't purchase a paid membership.

Most likely that's because your agency is not recommended on RAR.
Our paid memberships are designed to be used by recommended agencies only. Because purchasing the plan without being recommended wouldn't give you many benefits, we have removed the option to purchase any membership by non-recommended agencies.

General Questions

  • I've bought a logo but my recommended status lapsed. Will I be able to use my logo when I become recommended again?

No – all logos have an expiry date. Purchased logos last for the duration of the recommended period which was in place at the time you purchased your logo. All logos which are provided as a membership benefit will be renewed when you become recommended again.

  • How do I find out which clients are looking for new suppliers on RAR?

We keep our client data confidential. One of the main benefits of RAR to clients is that they can search for agency partners discreetly with the option to contact them directly.

  • How can I improve my chances of getting on client long-lists?

We are all about helping clients narrow their agency searches. By keeping your ratings up-to date for all your services and by completing your content you'll improve your chances of selection. You'll appear only in searches for services that you are recommended for. Other search filters include company size and sector experience so also make sure you have submitted that data. For our consultancy services the same advice applies. Our initial judgements are based on the information you provide; so, if your agency content is lightly populated it makes it harder for us make an informed recommendation to clients.

  • Why should I add content to my account which is not visible as part of my membership?

We advise that you add all the required content on your account as this will allow RAR and prospective clients to have a clearer understanding of your business. We use this content to help us match agencies and clients as part of our consultancy service and registered clients can access this content, even though it is not visible, by requesting a report on your agency.

  • How do I enter RAR Awards?

Full details on entering the RAR Awards can be found on the awards website here.

  • Can non-members enter RAR Awards?

No, the RAR Awards are exclusive for members and nominations are included in the membership package. More information on our memberships and their benefits can be found on our pricing page.

If your recommended status is extended during your membership, you will be able to access the new logo from here and if you are nominated for any of our awards, you will also be able to access an awards logo to help you promote this. When you are a member, you will be able to access your report on the front page of your dashboard by selecting the link which says “access report”, this will then take you straight to the report, which you can then download as a PDF by selecting “download PDF”.
