Hodder Education is one of the largest secondary school and college publishers in the UK, providing materials supporting the curriculum in almost every subject area and at every level, including online assessment and resources, and training services for teachers.
They sell textbooks, etextbooks and digital services to over 140 countries worldwide.
What was the brief?
Our relationship with Hodder Education extends back to the founding of MMT Digital, where we created CD ROMs for Hodder Education’s Dynamic Learning teaching and learning platform. Fortunately, times and technologies have moved on and our brief for this project was to rebuild the Hodder Education Marketing website to improve the look and feel of their website. We needed to improve the layout and search functionality, make it fully responsive and implement a user friendly e-commerce platform.
As well as being able to sell textbooks, Hodder also wanted their website to integrate with their Dynamic Learning product which was using a separate CRM. They also wanted to capitalise on the invaluable customer data that can be generated from a website for marketing purposes.
There was also a critical recognition from the Hodder Education Marketing Team to deepen their online marketing activities by leveraging the potential of Kentico EMS. They wanted the ability to harness such functions as user segmentation and personalisation in combination with running effective campaigns and conversions through the EMS was considered essential in ensuring the new website delivered significant return on investment.
What did MMT Digital do?
We created original designs focussing on dramatically improving usability and incorporating content-centric responsive web design.
By focussing on the content rather than current devices on the market we have ensured that the website will not only look and work perfectly on all existing devices but also on devices that haven’t even been invented yet!
Integrating with Dynamic Learning was not an issue as a result of Kentico’s hospitable nature to 3rd party systems and our experience of such tasks.
By using Kentico EMS we were able to provide Hodder with more customer data than they originally envisaged. The Hodder marketing department are now able to make use of A/B Testing, Lead Scoring, Personalisation, Marketing Automation and Multivariate Testing.
MMT Digital fully utilised the potential of EMS by using Kentico document types, widgets and webparts to build as much of the website as possible. The Hodder Education Marketing Department are now able to pick and configure EMS functions from the website and apply it to their rich content for highly targeted marketing activities.
What were the results?
Upon launch in the summer of 2013, the website received extensive praise from wider stakeholders at Hodder Education. Orders rolled in immediately with the new stripped back approach to content providing potential customers with a clear and fast route to purchasing Hodder Education’s market leading products. Kentico have recognised the achievement too, with the new Hodder Education website sitting proudly in Kentico’s Top 10 Websites for July.
By using Kentico EMS, Hodder can easily track and monitor site analytics with tools such as A/B Testing, Lead Scoring and Marketing Automation. Hodder Education are also able to segment their customers into groups to be targeted with effective marketing campaigns. Together with the integrated CRMs, the Kentico user profiles build up knowledge of user purchases and preferences, enabling Hodder Education to reach users with specific campaigns and personalised content, providing customers with a service tailored to their needs, in turn driving sales on the Hodder Education marketing platform
