Boosting Engagement for a Global Best Practice Management Organisation with a Fully Responsive Platform

1st February 2016

AXELOS is a joint venture company, created by the Cabinet Office on behalf of Her Majesty’s Government (HMG) in the United Kingdom and Capita plc to run the Global Best Practice portfolio. It boasts an already enviable track record and an unmatched portfolio of products, including ITIL®, PRINCE2®, and RESILIA.

We have worked with AXELOS on various projects, the first of these was to dramatically improve the user experience for their customers on their main website We created a site that is accessible across a range of platforms and devices whilst simultaneously consolidating 1000+ pages of content from nine separate product websites into a single site.

The initial release of the new website was extremely successful with 1700 newsletter signups in the first two months. AXELOS have also received over 8000 sales leads per month since the release of the new website.

Due to the site being such a success and the benefits AXELOS saw from embracing digital, we have worked with them on a number of subsequent projects to broaden their digital offering, one of these being the creation of an extranet. The purpose of the extranet was to act as a Partner Portal and would offer marketing support services to their global network of Accredited Training Partners and Examination Institutes.

We successfully created an extranet which fully met the needs that AXELOS outlined in their brief and it is a fantastic tool for their global network of partners. AXELOS are now able to manage the content on the extranet themselves, thus saving significant time.

In the first 6 months of the extranet going live, AXELOS saw 38,370 sessions from 18,827 different users. The average time spent on the site was 2 minutes 45 seconds, with an average of 3.15 pages viewed per session. The total number of pages viewed in the first 6 months was 120,842 and the total number of downloads was 1,866.

Most recently, we were tasked with building upon AXELOS’ existing portfolio with a project that concentrated on the importance of continuing professional development (CPD) for their members. We created a standalone web application named APD (AXELOS Professional Development) which is an online annual membership programme, aligned to their global best practice frameworks ITIL®, PRINCE2® and MSP®.

Central to the new application is an assessment engine which allows subscribers to benchmark and develop their skills against industry standards. Using a suite of online tools, users are able to plan and record their CPD activities in order to ensure that their skills and knowledge remain up-to-date while supporting continuing professional development.

A unique element to this project is the ability for a user to be awarded a digital badge following the successful completion of their annual CPD log. The badge can then be shared on their profile within the AXELOS community area on and also on professional networking profiles such as LinkedIn.

Another important element of the application was the need for users to purchase resources. Previously, users would do this through the main AXELOS site via a third party online store. However, to provide a better user experience, we needed to ensure that the shopping experience, including purchasing, could be fully completed through the same application. We therefore built a completely new online store for AXELOS so that users are now able browse and purchase resources all through the same application.

AXELOS are extremely happy with their e-commerce solution and it fulfils all of their requirements while presenting a seamless user experience despite a number of complex integrations that are running in the background.

Gary Carpenter, Web Coordinator at AXELOS, said: “It’s been a pleasure working with MMT Digital – the combination of their Agile approach and their excellent technical expertise provides superb results and Kentico was definitely the right choice for us!”
