Campaign Spotlight: Full of Vegan Beanz

Along with millions of health conscious people, Heinz Beanz are going the vegan route for the entire month of January with their latest campaign for the little legumes that many of us might not even think of as ‘vegetables’, let alone vegan.

WELL THEY ARE, OK?

The new marketing campaign has been devised by Havas London to reinforce the fact. In addition, a PR campaign from Wonderland Communication will firm up this messaging in response to surveys indicating 10% of people are unaware that Heinz Beanz are vegan.

The famous turquoise blue cans are changing their familiar Beanz Meanz Heinz slogan for a month to read Beanz Means Vegan. (Not that the missing Heinz name will leave anyone in doubt as to whoze beanz theze are in the limited edition tins.)

PLANT BASED REVOLUTION

If you had the impression that everyone was going vegan these days, you wouldn’t be far wrong. More than a quarter of a million Britons took part in last year’s Veganuary. And estimates are that this January, at least a million people will follow a vegan diet.

The official Veganuary website assures us that since 2014, Veganuary has inspired and supported more than half a million people in 178 countries to try vegan for January – and beyond. More than 500 businesses took part in Veganuary 2019, and over 200 new vegan products and menus were launched for Veganuary 2019

So rest assured that eating your beanz in support of Veganuary puts you in good company.

BEANS FOR A BETTER WORLD

According to New Scientist Magazine (not to mention vegans themselves) there’s convincing evidence to suggest that, approached with some thought, an animal free diet is not just good for our health but great for the planet too.

It’s also good to know that your beanz are a good source of protein and are high in fibre, as well as being low in fat and calories. They also contain minerals such as iron and zinc, and are a good source of B vitamins including folic acid.

As Emily Wright from Heinz Beanz says, “There’s a general perception that being vegan means you have to spend lots of money on fancy foods, but being vegan isn’t all kale and quinoa.”

Heinz want vegans to know that their classic Heinz Beanz can still be enjoyed this Veganuary, whether on a simple piece of toast or a delicious baked potato.

If I pile some bacon on top, can I still be vegan?

Er, no…
