In the media industry we often talk about ‘reducing wastage’ i.e. better targeting, but in so many ways the by-product of ‘waste’ in marketing still has some value, even more so if its free! 

Mass marketing can work because whilst its weighted towards a defined audience, its not exclusive, it allows for new non defined customers to become aware of a product - all in the name of waste!
